Beginners Course details:

Part one of this course is for absolute beginners or those “rusty returners” who have played bridge a long time ago and wish refresh their memories. All that is needed is enthusiasm and the will to learn and the sessions will provide plenty of opportunities to enjoy playing cards.

Theresa Murray-Bates, an English Bridge Union qualified tutor, runs the course which is based on the English Bridge Union’s Beginning Bridge Book, a copy of which is included as part of the course fee. Members of the club also assist at the sessions and this helps to ensure that support and tuition is also given in small groups.

During each two hour lesson about forty-five minutes is spent in direct teaching activities. This includes instruction and tasks which help with understanding the particular aspects that are being taught. The remainder of the session is spent playing hands that put into practice the theory taught in the first part of the lesson.

If you then decided to enrol on the course after the free taster session,  there is a one off charge of £125 for the remaining eleven classes which comprise:

 

1. Suits, points, tricks and an introduction to Minibridge

2. Mini bridge and playing in No Trumps

3. Declarer play and basic defence

4. Minibridge Simultanious Pairs

5. How the auction works, opening 1NT and balanced hands

6. Game responses to a 1NT opening

7. New suit responses—opener’s weak rebids

8. Openers rebid with a strong hand

9. Getting into no trumps

10. Recapping on what has been learnt. Playing lesson
